Picot-Edge Washcloth Using Hemp for Knitting allhemp6

“Small handmade gifts make big impressions.”

A gift that's hand-knit? So meaningful in the eyes of your host or hostess. It looks like you went to so much trouble! Here's an easy, relatively quick gift idea using a quintessential cross-season yarn, allhemp6 from Hemp for Knitting. We love it for our Picot Edge Washcloth—it gives us a nice exfoliating scrub, even though it gets softer every time we pull it out of the dryer. Add a soap bar for an even more lasting impression!

Shown in LANAKNITS HEMP

Made from a renewable resource, grown without pesticides or herbicides in China, allhemp6 won't shrink, stretch, or pill! Hemp For Knitting's Canadian founder, Lana Hames, works with a Chinese company to wet-spin the long-line hemp fibers for softness and sheen. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter, nature's strongest, most long-wearing fiber makes the perfect sweater yarn, especially for kids and men who run hot.

LANAKNITS HEMPLANAKNITS HEMP

Approx. 9 x 9"/23 x 23cm

1 skein of Hemp for Knitting allhemp6 (100% hemp. 100g, 165 yds/150m). Shown in 39 Midnight Blue and 10 Pearl.
Or 115 yds/106m of a dk-weight hemp or other plant fiber yarn

US 5 (3.75mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge; darning needle to finish.

Approx. 22 sts = 4"/10cm in garter stitch.

Your hemp skeins will be a little stiff when they first arrive but give them a chance—your yarn will soften as you knit and get softer and softer every time you wash and dry it. Hames offers this suggestion: If your hands are particularly sensitive, pre-soak your skeins in hot water and a little hair conditioner and air dry thoroughly before you knit.
