One of the noblest fibers in the world is twirled up into sport-weight mYak Baby Camel! The fine, downy hair is brushed from the coat of Bactrian camels, also known as Mongolian camels. These hardy, shaggy beasts thrive in the arid conditions of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, close to the Gobi Desert. Brilliantly adapted to their environment, their coats are wonderfully insulating—leading to very warm, very soft fiber. With a nice lightweight structure, this yarn is as remarkable as the animal it comes from!

Paola, owner of mYak, won the hearts of our team at TNNA one year, telling us stories of the time she lived and worked in Tibet. There, she developed long-lasting relationships with nomadic herders in the high pastures of the Tibetan Plateau. Fiber is sourced directly from these herders, supporting their community and ancient way of life. Organic and with no waste—any fiber that is deemed unfit to be spun into yarn is either given back to the Tibetan herders so they can make pillow fills for prayer mats or is felted into blankets and other household products. Responsibility, traceability, and sustainability!
