Mohair Bias Loop Using Rowan Kidsilk Haze

The Design

“Light as air.”

Wear this sheer seamless loop as a long, endless scarf, or twisted double as a cowl, or around your shoulders as a wrap. We’ve knit it on the bias so the edges don’t roll and it sits nicely on the shoulders. Light as air, it folds up to nearly nothing, and is equally talented at dressy and casual—the perfect piece for travel.

Shown in Rowan Kidsilk Haze

A favorite go-to yarn, Kidsilk Haze inspires us so much that we've kept it in stock since we opened our doors in 2000. Knit on small needles, it's delicate and fine. On larger needles, it's light as a breath. Double-stranded it makes a perfect, lofty DK-weight. As a strand-along, it softens the hand of crisper yarns and blurs the edges of busy variegations. And, of course, it makes extraordinarily luxurious lace.

Yarn Source

Jimmy Beans Wool

Approx. 16–17"/41–43cm x 42"/107cm around.

2 skeins Rowan Kidsilk Haze (229 yds/210m each); shown in Color 589.
Or approx. 350 yds/320m of an equivalent lace-weight mohair yarn.

US 10½ (6.5mm) circular needles, or size to get gauge.
Another circular needle to hold stitches while grafting.
Size J (6mm) crochet hook for provisional cast-on.

Approx. 12 sts = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking

This pattern has long been a shop favorite. We've all knit them—and sometimes more than one. It's a versatile, stylish, easy-to-throw-on kind of piece. The knitting is a pleasure too, with the simply biased stockinette fabric. If there is a sticky part, it comes with the grafting—we recommend setting aside a couple of hours where you can begin and end the grafting. Once you've begun you won't want to stop. If you've not grafted before, we suggest a practice session; knit up a couple of 24-stitch swatches and follow the grafting instructions. You'll get into a grafting rhythm in no time and emerge an expert!
