Crocheted Coasters and Trivets Using Hemp for Knitting allhemp6

“Pops of color for your table.”

For summer picnics or festive pops of color on sunny kitchen tables, we made simple crocheted coasters (shown here in color 021 Dijon) and trivets using our ‘Crocheted Baskets’ pattern, our free adaptation to the pattern, and allhemp6 yarn.

They make great hostess gifts as well, so grab a skein, whip some up and be ready to say thanks for all your summer party invitations, or throw a party of your own.

Shown in Hemp for Knitting allhemp6

One skein of allhemp6 is enough for 8 coasters, or 2 trivets, or 4 coasters and 1 trivet—your choice! Ultra-durable allhemp6 is a great fiber for protecting surfaces from moisture or heat. And all the colors give you plenty of options for spiffing up the table.

Coaster: Approx. 4" in diameter.
Trivet: Approx. 8" in diameter.

One skein Hemp for Knitting allhemp6 (165 yds/150m).
Or approx. 165 yds/150m of an equivalent DK-weight cotton or hemp yarn.
Note: One 4" coaster takes approx. 20 yds and one 8" trivet takes approx. 80 yds.

US E/4 (3.5mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge (for a nice firm fabric).
Locking stitch marker.
Darning needle to weave in ends.

Approx. 20 sc in the round = 4"/10cm.
Note: Your actual stitch gauge isn’t nearly as important for this project as getting a nice tight stitch that will give your coasters and trivets structure. If you need a smaller hook to get the structure, you may need a little more yarn to get the size you wanted.
