The Design

This cozy, deeply cuffed cap is an oft-revisited Churchmouse favorite. When it’s worn turned up, the doubled fabric is doubly nice and warm. We love it uncuffed and slouchy, too! We’ve made the ribbed cuff nice and deep so that you can fold it a long way up without the wrong side of the stockinette stitch showing. Plus, it’s a quick knit! For this version, we thought it’d be fun to add a modern, color-tipped edge—so we went ahead and did just that!

We knit this Boyfriend Watch Cap using String Turin. An Italian-made, heavy-worsted-weight yarn, it’s a combination of 95% cashmere with a 5% splash of extrafine merino. Warm and velvety soft—and sprinkled with tweed’s signature flecks—it makes an irresistibly comfy topper!

FINISHED SIZE
To fit 20–23"/51–58cm head. Approx. 18"/46cm around ribbing, not stretched.

YARN
1 skein String Turin (122yds/112m each) in main color; approx. 6 yds/5.5m in contrasting color for tipping. Or approx. same quantities of an equivalent heavy worsted-weight yarn.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 8 (5mm) 16"/40cm circular and double-point needles, or size to obtain gauge.
US 7 (4.5mm) 16"/40cm circular needle, or one size smaller than gauge needle.
3 stitch markers (1 in a different color to designate beginning of round).
Darning needle to finish.

GAUGE
Approx. 16 sts/18 rounds = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking.
