Bigger Basketweave Wrap Using Brooklyn Tweed Shelter

“Warm, woolly, and wrappable."

We wanted a piece with lots of squishy texture and glorious, lavish proportions—one we could fling grandly over our shoulders and wrap up in indoors and out. Then we scaled it down a little, both in size and gauge. But you can knit either size in either gauge so the cozy possibilities are vast!

Use the Aran-weight version. See the "Knitter's Notes" for a good tip.

Shown in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter

For this version of our Big & Bigger Basketweave Wrap we chose a worsted weight yarn that would give us a lot of bloom and loft. Brooklyn Tweed Shelter was just the right yarn! It kept this large wrap on the lighter side and we were able to get gauge following the Aran-weight instructions.

Yarn Source

Approx. 24 x 80"/61 x 203cm, after blocking

13 skeins Brooklyn Tweed Shelter (140 yds/128m each).
Wrap shown in Color Fauna.
Or approx. 1820 yds/1664m of an equivalent worsted-weight yarn.

US 6 (4.5mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge.
6 stitch markers.
2 locking markers.
Darning needle to finish.
Blocking wires and/or T-pin

Approx. 21 sts/28 rows = 4"/10cm in pattern, after blocking.

Claire, the sample knitter, suggests clipping a marker onto the first stitch of every 20th row to keep track of the stitch pattern repeats.
