Basic Socks Using Rowan Felted Tweed

“A substantial, tweedy basic.”

Our mothers (and their mothers) knew this sock by heart, with its vertical heel flap, turned heel, picked up gussets and grafted toe. For many of us, it’s the first sock we learned and our point of departure into the ever-widening world of socks. While we love some of the new approaches, we return again and again to this straightforward, comfy basic. Once you understand its simple structure, improvise to your heart’s content.

Shown in Rowan Felted Tweed

We knit this version of our Basic Sock with a little more woolly substance in Rowan Felted Tweed. One of our favorite yarns of all time, Felted Tweed is on the finer side of a DK-weight. It blends merino wool for softness and spring, with alpaca and viscose for drape, luster, and subtle stitch definition. And there are so many colors to play with!
