Simple Straight Skirt Using Tahki Donegal Tweed
The Design
The Simple Straight Skirt is the first skirt we designed, and it quickly became a favorite among customers and staff. We like to wear it casually with leggings and boots, or dress it up a bit. Tahki Donegal Tweed, a 100% pure wool from Ireland with those signature tweedy flecks we love, creates a durable, firm fabric that's easy to wear.
First skirt? No problem! Our Classics pattern walks you through getting the perfect fit―waist, length, and hip to waist ratio. Wear it at your natural waist, or adjust elastic waistband to sit lower on your hip. Whatever is most comfortable and suits your style. Pattern also shows images of a sporty 16" length and a suit-ier 19" length but you can make it any length you like. We've worked out all the math (and yardage) for you, inch by inch.
Knit from the waist down, fabric is stockinette with a ribbed hem. A provisional cast-on starts the waistband, joined and knit in the round. Then stitches are divided for front and back panels, knit flat, and seamed when knitting is complete. Side seams give flattering structure and strength, and combined with the knit-down fabric (smaller needles, tighter gauge), your skirt will retain its shape.

For custom lengths: To lengthen or shorten skirt, add or subtract approx. 28 (29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 38, 40, 41, 43, 45)yds / 26 (27, 29, 31, 32, 34, 35, 37, 38, 40, 42)m of yarn for each 1"/2.5cm of knitted length.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 7 (4.5mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge.
Two US 5 (3.75mm) 24"/60cm circular needles, or two sizes smaller than gauge needle size.
Size I (5.5mm) crochet hook, 6-10 yds/5-9m smooth dk-weight yarn, and locking marker, for provisional cast-on.
2 small point protectors to use circular needle as stitch holder.
Stitch marker.
Darning needle to finish.
¾"/2cm non-roll elastic (waist measurement plus 2"/5cm).
Needle and thread.
Optional: Blocking wires.
GAUGE
20 sts/28 rows = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch. Wet block to test gauge and drape.
