First skirt? No problem! Our Classics pattern walks you through getting the perfect fit―waist, length, and hip to waist ratio. Wear it at your natural waist, or adjust elastic waistband to sit lower on your hip. Whatever is most comfortable and suits your style.

Pattern also shows images of a sporty 16" length and a suit-ier 19" length but you can make it any length you like. We've worked out all the math (and yardage) for you, inch by inch. Soon to become part of your go-to wardrobe for fall and winter, and a great excuse to buy boots!

Yarn Source

Finished hip (actual measurement after seaming):
32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52)" / 81 (86, 91, 97, 102, 107, 112, 117, 122, 127, 132)cm. For specific yarn requirements or to customize length.

Light Worsted
Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 (220 yds/200m each): 3–5 skeins for 19"/48cm length; shown lower left in Color 4001.
Or 590–930 yds/540–851m of an equivalent 4.5–5 sts = 1"/2.5cm yarn.
Heavy Worsted
Jamieson Shetland Heather Aran (100 yds/91m each): 5–8 skeins for 16"/40cm length; shown lower center and right in Color 888.
Or 470–740 yds/430–677m of an equivalent 4–4.5 sts = 1"/2.5cm yarn.

Light Worsted
Needles: US 7 (4.5mm), or size to obtain gauge. Two US 5 (3.75mm) 24"/60cm circular, or 2 sizes smaller than gauge size.
Heavy Worsted
Needles: US 8 (5mm), or size to obtain gauge. Two US 6 (4mm) 24"/60cm circular, or 2 sizes smaller than gauge size.
Both
Size I (5.5mm) crochet hook, for provisional cast-on.
¾"/2cm non-roll elastic (waist measurement plus 2"/5cm).
Needle and thread.
Optional: Blocking wires

Light Worsted
Gauge: 20 sts/28 rows = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch.

Heavy Worsted
Gauge: 18 sts/27 rows = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch.
