Shoulder Cozy Pattern

Shoulder Cozy Pattern

Shoulder Cozy Pattern

Shoulder Cozy Pattern

The Design

“It's the perfect touch of warmth for all seasons.”

You could call it a capelet. Or a poncho. Or a cowl. Scrunch it up around your neck when you put your coat on—slip it down over your shoulders when you get there. In two sizes, it knits up in an evening—so knit one for you, and one for a friend!

See how we've used this pattern!

The Details

FINISHED SIZES
Small/Medium: Approx. 16"/41cm long when flat; fits up to 56"/142cm around shoulders (bust+arms).
Large/Extra Large: Approx. 18"/46cm long when flat; fits up to 60"/152cm around shoulders (bust+arms).

YARN
Yarn information given for Small/Medium; Large/Extra Large in parentheses ( ).
2 (3) skeins Rowan Summer Tweed (131 yds/120m each); shown in Color 548. Or approx. 229 (393) yds/209 (360)m of an equivalent worsted-weight yarn.
AND 1 (2) skeins Rowan Kidsilk Haze (229 yds/209m each); shown in Color 642. Or approx. 229 (393) yds/209 (359)m of an equivalent lace-weight mohair yarn.

NEEDLES
US 13 (9mm) 24"/60cm circular needle, or size to obtain gauge.

GAUGE
Approx. 9 sts = 4"/10cm in garter stitch using both yarns held together, after blocking.

KNITTER'S NOTES
Don't be tempted to work another cast-on method here. You really do want the stretch of the e-loop around the bottom where it will hit both your bust and your arms.

At the same time, don't work a traditional bind-off on this piece. Follow our instructions and work it loosely. If you have to, pull it out and try again. You're after a relaxed, stretchy neck edge so that you can style the finished piece in a variety of ways.
