Diagonal Lace Scarf Using Rauma Alpakka Lin

“Lofty lace.”

Our friend, Becky ffitch designed this elegant, easy-to-knit scarf for lightweight coziness—indoors or out! The airy laciness means it’s a perfect shawl for cool evenings in sunny places. Or you could loop it double around your neck for a bit more coziness. With lines of eyelet lace that are truly satisfying to knit, our Diagonal Lace Scarf is a great accessory for ‘shoulder’ season.

See the "Knitter's Notes" for helpful info.

Shown in Rauma Alpakka Lin

This simple, lacy scarf is so pretty knit in the classically soft-and-fluffy Rauma Alpakka Lin. With this worsted-weight yarn, the renowned Norwegian yarn makers have perfectly blended brushed baby alpaca, linen, and wool. The light, lofty strand creates beautiful lace—drapey and soft and with a lovely halo.

Approx. 16 x 78"/40 x 198cm.

3 skeins Rauma Alpakka Lin (191 yds/175m each). Or approx. 573 yds/525m of an equivalent worsted-weight yarn. Sample shown in color 6560.

US 8 (5mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge.
2 stitch markers.
Darning needle to finish.
Blocking wires and T-pins.

Approx. 14 sts = 4"/10cm, after blocking and resting.

We can't say it enough—as with any lace project, the beauty is in the blocking! If you're curious halfway through your project, you can do what Carol did with our Isager Alpaca Merino 2 sample. She was really enjoying the soft drapey nature of the yarn in her hands, and couldn't wait to see the lace pattern blocked open over a full-width piece, so upon finishing her second skein, she put her live stitches on a piece of waste yarn and blocked it early! A little bit of the "Ahh!" factor to carry you through the rest of the project. Re-block the whole thing when you finish for a gorgeous result.
