Oxford Socks: Color-Blocked Version Using Regia Premium Merino Yak
The Design
“Color blocks make for happy socks!”
This little sock is a smart, comfy addition to our roster of basic sock patterns. With a super-easy short-row shaping method at the toe and heel, it’s easy to master, easy to remember, easy to start, and easy to finish! The clever construction makes it a snap to work in many different colors for contrasting toes, heels, and cuffs. We’ve had great fun playing with variations ever since!
The Oxford Socks are ultra warm and ultra comfy in Regia Premium Merino Yak. This fingering-weight yarn blends high-quality merino wool from South Africa with yak (that’s where the extra touch of warmth comes from!) and polyamide. The yak fiber lends a special mélange effect to this yarn’s otherwise deeply saturated colors—lots to choose from for our color-blocked socks!
The Details
FINISHED SIZES
Medium-width adult: Up to 10"/25cm foot on 8"/20cm cuff. For longer foot, knit shorter cuffs or purchase more yarn.
Note: Finished sock length should be ½"/1.25cm shorter than actual foot length measured from back of heel to tip of toe.
YARN
2-3 skeins Regia Premium Merino Yak (437 yds/400m each) for Contrasting Cuff, Toe & Heel; or approx. 400 yds/366m fingering-weight sock yarn (includes approx. 14 yds/13m for contrasting toe and heel). Add or subtract 22 yds/20m per knitted 1"/2.5cm per pair.
2-Color Stockinette Version: 2 skeins Regia Premium Merino Yak (437 yds/400m each); 1 skein each in Colors A and B.
3-Color Stockinette Version: 3 skeins Regia Premium Merino Yak (437 yds/400m each); 1 skein each in Colors A, B, and C.
For our samples, we used Color A = 7510 Beige Meliert, Color B = 7523 Jeans Meliert, and Color C = 7516 Gras Green Meliert. Note: Our 2-color ribbed version was worked as directed in original pattern.
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 1 (2.25mm) set of 5 double-point needles, or size to obtain gauge.
US D/3 (3.25mm) crochet hook for provisional cast-on.
1 yd/m smooth fingering-weight waste yarn for provisional cast-on.
1 locking marker.
Darning needle to finish.
GAUGE
Approx. 32 sts = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking.
