Welted Cowl Using Shibui Maai

Welted Cowl Using Shibui Maai

"So soft against the skin!"

We noticed that some knitters were making the cowl from our Churchmouse Classics Easy Folded Poncho separately and that gave us an idea. We created a two-color cowl with purl welts for a sculptural effect (or you can make it with one color).

Two skeins of Shibui Maai are enough to make the small size two-color cowl shown here and a pair of Welted Fingerless Gloves in reverse coloring.

Grab the pattern below (if you don’t already have it) along with the yarn for the cowl. If you’re making the Welted Fingerless Gloves as well, you can find that pattern on the Maai Fingerless Gloves project page.

Cowl: approx. 24"/61cm around x 11"/28cm deep, with welts flattened.

2 skeins Shibui Maai (175yds/160m each): 1 skein each of 2 colors (or 2 skeins of 1 color). Shown in colors Fjord and Pollen.
Note: If you buy one skein each of two colors, you'll have enough to make a Welted Cowl and a pair of Welted Fingerless Gloves in reverse coloring.

US 6 (4mm) 16–24"/40–60cm circular needle, or size to obtain gauge.
One US 8 (5mm) needle, or two sizes larger than gauge needle, for bind-off.

Approx. 20 sts = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch in the round, blocked.
