Very Gifted Cowl - Silk Cloud + Cima Version

Very Gifted Cowl - Silk Cloud + Cima Version

"Subtle sophistication."

Our gift to you this season: a super-versatile cowl pattern that is simplicity itself, with details for eight yarn weights so you can use almost any yarn - or, in this case, a stranded combination of Shibui's mixable yarns.

We love the soft sheen of Shibui Silk Cloud held with Shibui Cima; together they knit up as the equivalent of sport weight - surprisingly speedy on a US 5/3.75mm needle. The generous yardage in these skeins means you can get one luxurious 14"/36cm cowl, or make two sized at 7"/18cm -- one for you and one for a friend!

Click on "The Free Pattern" tab to see the pattern. Our project includes one skein each of Silk Cloud and Cima in the same color for beautiful tonal depth. If you’d like to put together your own two-color combination, just visit the Silk Cloud and Cima pages–you’ll need one skein of each.

28"/71cm circumference; 1 skein of each yarn, held double-stranded, yielded 14"/35.5cm depth.

1 skein Silk Cloud (330 yds/300m each) and 1 skein Cima (328 yds/299m each).
Or approx. 320 yds/293m of two lace-weight yarns held together and treated as sport weight.

US 5 (3.75mm) 24"/60cm circular, or size to obtain gauge.
Optional: one US 7 (4.5mm) needle, or two sizes larger than gauge needle, for bind-off.
Stitch marker.
Darning needle to finish.

Approx. 22 sts = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch in the round, blocked.

See the "Basic Details" tab for size, yarn, needle, and gauge information.

Cast On: Using cable cast-on method, cast on 154 stitches. Do not join in the round yet.

Edging row (right side): Purl. At end of row, do not turn. Place marker on right needle and join to work in round, being careful not to twist.

Stockinette stitch: Knit every round until work measures desired depth and you have at least 4 yds/3.5m of yarn left to bind off.

Bind off: Bind off purlwise, working loosely (or using larger needle in right hand) to match tension of cast-on edge. Or, turn work so inside of cowl is facing you and bind off knitwise.

Finishing: Weave in ends on wrong side. Gently steam- or wet-block; allow to dry, turning occasionally to avoid setting creases. Pop it on, or wrap it up!
