Very Gifted Cowl - Katia Night Version

Very Gifted Cowl - Katia Night Version

"Festive sparkle!"

Our gift to you this season: a super-versatile cowl pattern that is simplicity itself, with details for eight yarn weights so you can use almost any yarn (or combination of yarns) you like. Here, we've put together sparkling combinations of Katia Cotton Merino and Night, a glittery fine strandalong from the Italian masterminds at Filatura di Crosa. Does your taste in bling run to silver, gold, copper, or the black of night?

Our sample shown here yielded 8" of knitted depth from just one skein of each yarn, but the pattern lists yardage requirements for each knitted inch of depth so you’ll know just how far one skein can go. (You'll likely have enough Night for a second cowl, if you like!) Make one for you, one for a friend!

28"/71cm circumference; 1 skein of each yarn yielded 8"/20cm depth.

1 skein Katia Cotton Merino (115 yds/105m each) and 1 skein Filatura di Crosa Night (314 yds/287m). Shown in Colorway Beige-Silver.
Or approx. 115 yds/105m of a heavy-worsted-weight yarn stranded with a laceweight metallic.

US 10½ (6.5mm) 24"/60cm circular, or size to obtain gauge.
Optional: one US 11 (8mm) needle, or several sizes larger than gauge needle, for bind-off.
Stitch marker.
Darning needle to finish.

Approx. 12 sts = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch in the round, blocked.

See the "Basic Details" tab for size, yarn, needle, and gauge information.

Cast On: Using cable cast-on method, cast on 84 stitches. Do not join in the round yet.

Edging row (right side): Purl. At end of row, do not turn. Place marker on right needle and join to work in round, being careful not to twist.

Stockinette stitch: Knit every round until work measures desired depth and you have at least 4 yds/3.5m of yarn left to bind off.

Bind off:Bind off purlwise, working loosely (or using larger needle in right hand) to match tension of cast-on edge. Or, turn work so inside of cowl is facing you and bind off knitwise.

Finishing: Weave in ends on wrong side. Gently steam- or wet-block; allow to dry, turning occasionally to avoid setting creases. Pop it on, or wrap it up!
