The Design

“Lightweight, full of warmth.”

Inspired by our ever-popular Easy Folded Poncho, this scaled-down version is totally seamless and slips easily over the shoulders. The simple shape makes it easy to re-yarn in another gauge. Just swatch for a softly draping fabric, then multiply the schematic dimensions by your stitch gauge—the math is easy!

We couldn’t resist knitting our Two-Point Cowl in the tech-savvy Blue Sky Fibers Techno. It’s a clever, chunky fiber that has the weightless loft of a woolen-spun yarn, and yet it maintains a nice strength. Techno has a core of silk mesh at the center of its strand. Delicate baby alpaca and extra fine merino fibers are blown through for a halo of soft, airy fuzz—perfect for a Cowl full of warm volume.

The Details

Cowl Collar: Approx. 22"/56cm around x 7"/18cm deep.

3 skeins Blue Sky Fibers Techno (120 yds / 110m each) or approx. 410 yds/375m chunky-weight yarn.

US 10. 5 (6.5mm) needles and 16"/40cm circular needle, or size to obtain gauge.
Spare circular needle one size smaller than gauge needle.
US G/6 (4mm) crochet hook and 1 locking marker for provisional cast-on.
Smooth fingering-or worsted-weight waste yarn for provisional cast-on.
1 stitch marker.
Darning needle to finish.
Blocking Wires and T-pins.

13 sts & 21 rows= 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking.

We stopped at 6"/18cm deep on the Cowl Collar. It saved from getting into a new skein. You can also undo your swatch if you did one, but use it before you start your cowl, that way you won't see sewn in ends on the inside of the cowl.

The key to re-gauging is to knit a generous swatch, one that’s at least 6” x 6”. Wet block your swatch, allow it to dry thoroughly and let it rest. You want a softly draping fabric that has some body but isn’t stiff. Once you have a fabric you like, measure and note your stitch gauge—Use the free re-gauging worksheet to do a little bit of simple math to achieve the finished dimensions.
