Tomten Jacket Using Berroco Ultra Wool

Tomten Jacket Using Berroco Ultra Wool

“For your small sprite.”

This adorable pattern is a sweet, iconic design from the incredible Elizabeth Zimmerman. Named for the wee spirit that looks after Swedish farms and their animals (farmer and family included!), the Tomten Jacket is perfect for your own small, mischievous sprite! Plus, the pattern does include instructions for an adult version…

Of the three different gauges included in the pattern, we decided to knit our Tomten Jacket in worsted-weight Berroco Ultra Wool. Ready to be put to work, Ultra Wool is a hardy, 100% superwash wool with a nice 4-ply twist. Soft and machine-washable, it’s a truly family friendly fiber!

Pick up a copy of the pattern below. Then choose your colors of Ultra Wool; check the Basic Details tab for the number of skeins you'll need for each size. (Please note that if you don't see the pattern below, that means we are temporarily sold out. But we'll have more again soon, so please check back!)

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 7 (4.5mm) circular needles, or size to obtain gauge.
Stitch markers.
Darning needle to finish.

GAUGE
20 sts = 4"/10cm in garter stitch.

Pam knit our sample and had these notes to share:

I used the 5 sts per inch version in the 22” circumference size.

Body length to underarm had 40 ridges or approx. 8”;
Hood Increases: I increased a total of 16 sts (8 increase rows worked);
Hood Height: 35 ridges before grafting or approx. 7”;
Sleeve Decreases: I worked decreases every 3 ridges. (Pattern calls for decreasing every 5 ridges.) I stopped decreasing when 32 sts remained. (Pattern calls for stopping when 28 sts remain.)
I-cord Trim: I used the Joyce Williams’ Variation for Applied I-cord in a Contrasting Color. Instructions are in pattern.
Buttonholes: I used EZ’s Hidden Buttonhole method. Instructions are in pattern.
