Rowan Fine Tweed
Rowan Fine Tweed
This yarn sets our hearts aflutter. The lightest version of Rowan Tweed (see the DK weight for more of the love fest) Fine Tweed is a fingering weight (7-8 stitches to the inch), what the English sometimes call '4-ply'... although this one is actually a slightly thick-and-thin single ply. Strictly speaking, 'single ply' is not quite correct as there is no 'plying' involved, but we find the technical term 'a singles' a bit perplexing!
In any case, the fine gauge is brilliant for colorwork (see our Colorwork Cuffs & Mittens Pattern), lighter indoor garments, and lace. With a good wet-blocking, the fabric will soften and bloom for a handsome finish. You'll find Fine Tweed's evocative color names (including 'Bainbridge') on a good map of the Yorkshire Dales where one of the few remaining mills in the UK produces this exceptional tweed. We bet you'll feel like plugging in the kettle for a cuppa. Yorkshire Gold would be just right.
We hope you'll give it a try and love it as much as we do.
