Modern Wrapper Fine – Shibui Version
Modern Wrapper Fine – Shibui Version
The slimmed sleeve and silhouette of our Modern Wrapper Fine is complemented by three relaxed size options. And we found a sweet spot of gauge and needle size by holding two lace-weight yarns together for a super-wearable fabric. (Learn more about the design on the Knitters’ Notes tab.)
We couldn’t help but choose Shibui’s Cima and Silk Cloud held together for a reyarned version that has inspired sighs from everyone who touches it. It’s shown here in colorway Fog.
Cima's super-baby alpaca and fine merino wool create a supple yarn with plies that look like little pearls, which makes us love it all the more. And Silk Cloud’s mohair and silk blend lends a beautiful luster and subtle halo to the fabric.
We put together four of our favorite colorways below for each of the three sizes. (Please note that pattern, needles and notions are not included with yarn. See the Basic Details tab for size and yarn information.)
If you’d like to choose your own colors of Shibui Cima and Silk Cloud, just head over to each yarn page.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 6 (4mm) 24–32"/60–80cm circular needle, or size to obtain gauge.
US 4 (3.5mm) 24–32"/60–80cm circular needle, or 2 US sizes/.5mm smaller than gauge size.
2 ring markers; 17 (20, 23) locking markers; 6 stitch holders (we like to use 4 extra circular needles and 2 double-points in gauge size or smaller, so you can knit off holder from either end); darning needle to finish.
22 sts/32 rows = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch on larger needle, after blocking.
When knitting with two strands at the same time, stop periodically to check for any dropped strands. While it’s not the worst thing that can happen to a sweater, dropped strands are easy to fix, especially if you catch them early.
This garment is knit flat in pieces and seamed. Short rows provide subtle shaping at the shoulders so that the garment sits neatly. We slimmed the sleeve and silhouette and added a bit more precision to the fit by grading the design in three relaxed sizes.
Designed with 16–22" of ease, the Modern Wrapper Fine leaves a lot of options for fit! Use the recommended amount of ease and enjoy the drapey fabric that results. Or knit it on the larger end of the ease range for a more oversized and dramatic look (similar to our original Modern Wrapper but in a lighter fabric). Or try one size smaller than recommended for a closer-fitting piece that’s more like a long cardigan to wear over leggings and a tank top.
If you decide to make your Modern Wrapper Fine into a tunic, leave a small amount of yarn visible after seaming the center front. This way you can easily undo the seam should you want a cardigan instead.
