Julie Hoover's designs hit that sweet spot of simplicity, elegance and ease—in both the making and the wearing. Marly is one such pattern, with its summer-friendly boxy shape, flowing sleeves and wide scoop neckline. Designed specifically for Manos del Uruguay Serena, this yarn yields a beautiful and soft fabric that perfectly complements the design!
35½ (39¾, 43¾, 48, 52¼, 56¼)" finished bust circumference
21¾ (22, 22¼, 23¼, 23½, 23¾)" length.
4 (4, 5, 5, 5, 6) skeins Manos del Uruguay Serena (50g, 170 yds/155m).
US 6 (4mm) 16"/40cm and 24"/60cm needles, or size to obtain gauge.
23 sts/32 rows = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch.
YARNManos yarns are dyed by hand and every skein is unique. Manos suggests working 2 rows alternately from 2 skeins to blend the differences from skein to skein. For our knitted sample we did not alternate skeins and there are marked differences where the color shifts. We like the artisanal look but you might prefer to blend.
It's important to do a gauge swatch. We used needles 2 sizes smaller (US 4 instead of US 6) to get gauge. And we went down 2 more sizes (to US 2) to achieve a nice looking ribbing. Because of this change, we worked 6 rows of ribbing on cuffs and neck instead of 5, and bound off with US 4 so edges wouldn’t pull in.
On the Left Neckline and Shoulder Shaping for Sizes 35-1/2 (39-3/4, 43 ¾)” only (page 4, top of right column) text should read: “Repeat last 4 rows 3 more time, and AT THE SAME TIME, BO 9 (10, 11) stitches at beginning of last 4 RS rows."
P.S. Look on the Manos web site for further errata if you purchased a Marly pattern before 4/22/13.
