Laine: Nordic Knit Life - Issue Eight

"Informative, inspiring, insightful."

In her introduction to the Summer 2019 issue of Laine, the Nordic Knit and Lifestyle Magazine, editor Jonna Hietala honors her grandmother. She writes of what her grandmother taught her: “You can get anywhere you want to, even from very humble beginnings...solidarity and equality are values worth fighting for. And that crafts are precious and you can support a family with them, as my Grandma did.”

Laine reflects on the community of makers and thinkers brought together from all over the world by the same interests—natural fibers, slow living, and local craftsmanship. The Laine team has created an informative and inspiring issue with gorgeous photography (set in a beautiful hotel in Helsinki) and lovely writing.

Stories of makers—including profiles on Susan Crawford (designer, author, and historian), Ocean Rose (who dyes yarn by hand using all natural material), and Lain’Amorée founder Pauline Copin-Herriot, and an insightful and important column from new Laine member, Jeanette Sloan—are interspersed with eleven knitting patterns by leading designers, exciting travel articles (Tampere, home of Laine!), seasonal recipes, and strong, poetic storytelling.

Laine Magazine issue 8; softcover, 140 pages.
