Double-Quick Marled Beanie

Double-Quick Marled Beanie

“Held double on chubby needles.”

Beanies are everywhere these days for good reason -  a great shape on almost every head, and this one fits even the biggest Mouse noggin with a little room to spare - not slouchy, but also not too snug. Holding two strands of Rowan Kid Classic on larger needles makes this cushy, soft topper a speedy knit. Done in no time!

And you'll have lots of fun playing with color combinations. Keep the colors close in value like our sample - creamy and pale grey, or play with higher contrast for more pop.  Over twenty shades to choose from!

Click on "The Free Pattern" tab to see the pattern. We've put together some of our favorite colorways, or try a solid version; one skein is enough to make the sample shown. Jump over to the Rowan Kid Classic page and pick your color. (Note: if you want to make a longer hat using one color you may need another skein.)

Approx. 19"/48cm unstretched; fits medium adult.

GLOSSARY: K = knit; K2tog = knit 2 stitches together; P = purl; St(s) = stitch(es).

Cast on: Holding yarn double, with smaller needle cast on 60 sts using cable cast-on method. Do not join yet.

Ribbed edge: Row 1: *K2, P2*, repeat between * * to end. Place contrasting marker; join in round, being careful not to twist.
Rounds 1–9: *K2, P2*, repeat between * * to end, slipping marker.

Straight section: Change to larger circular needles; knit every round, slipping marker as you go, until work measures 5¼"/13cm, or desired length (decrease rounds will add approx. 2¾"/7cm); on last round, place a marker every 12 sts.

Decrease rounds: Note: Change to double-point needles when necessary.
Round 1: *Knit to 2 sts before marker, K2tog*; repeat between * * to end. [5 sts decreased]
Round 2: Knit.
Repeat Round 1 only until 5 sts remain; remove markers during last round.

Finishing: Cut yarn leaving 8"/20cm tail. With darning needle, thread tail through remaining sts; draw up tightly. Weave in ends on inside. Steam gently if desired.
