Small Snowflake: Ch 6; join in ring with Sl St.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 12 SC in ring, join to first sc with Sl St. Tip: Work the sts around the tail as well as the chain; at end of round, tail can simply be tightened up and trimmed.
Round 2: Sl St into back loop of next st, *Ch 4, skip next st, 1 SC into back loop of next st*; repeat between * * 4 more times, Ch4, Sl St into same loop as sl st worked at beginning of round. [6 ch4 spaces made]
Round 3: Ch 1, *(1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 TP, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC) all in next ch4 space*; repeat between * * 5 more times, end with Sl St into first sc.
Fasten off, leaving tail long enough to knot into a hanging loop if desired.
Large Snowflake: Work same as Small Snowflake through Round 2.
Round 3: Sl St into first ch4 space, Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC), (2 DC, Ch 3, 3 DC, Ch 1) all in same ch4 space, *(3 DC, Ch3, 3 DC, Ch1) all in next ch4 space*; repeat between * * 4 more times, join with Sl St into top of ch3 worked at beginning of round.
Round 4: Sl St into next 2 sts and into next ch3 space, Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC), (2DC, Triple picot, 3 DC) all into same ch3 space, *SC into next ch1 space, (3 DC, Triple picot, 3 DC) all into next ch3 space*; repeat between * * 5 more times, SC into next ch1 space, join with Sl St to top of ch3 worked at beginning of round.
Fasten off, leaving tail long enough to knot into a hanging loop if desired.

Fasten off, leaving tail long enough to sew up to point and knot into a hanging loop if desired.
Garland: To make a garland, join the snowflakes and/or stars together as you work, as described below. Alternatively, you can make them all separately and sew together later. You may wish to make a garland of small snowflakes, or large ones, or stars, or mix them up!
Small Snowflakes: Complete one snowflake. Work second snowflake, completing 5th point of Round 3. Work 6th point through first ch3 picot of TP; holding 1st snowflake together with 2nd snowflake, wrong sides together, join with Sl St through ch4 picot on point of 1st snowflake (this replaces ch4 picot on 2nd snowflake), Sl St into same place as first picot, Ch 3, Sl St into same place (third picot), complete 6th point; fasten off. Join succeeding snowflakes in same way, joining opposite points.
Large Snowflakes: Complete one snowflake. Work second snowflake, completing 5th point of Round 4. Join as described above for small snowflake. Join succeeding snowflakes in same way, joining opposite points.
Stars: Complete one star. Work second star, completing 4th point of Round 3. Work 5th point as follows: SC in next 4 sts, (Sl St, Ch 3, Sl St; holding 1st star together with 2nd star, wrong sides together, join with Sl St into ch5 picot on 1st star, Sl St, Ch3, Sl St) all into ch2 space, SC in next 4 sts, end with Sl St into first sc; fasten off. Join succeeding stars in same way, joining opposite ‘arms’ of the stars.
Finishing: Weave in all remaining ends as invisibly as possible. Steam press, pulling points into shape, pinning as necessary. Allow to dry thoroughly.
