By Hand Serial / Issue 7: British Columbia's South Coast

"A travel guide for crafters."

The seventh issue of By Hand Serial focuses on Vancouver, Victoria, and the Gulf Islands of Canada’s beautiful British Columbia. In her journey through this naturally gorgeous region, Andrea reflects on slow fashion and the power that “a multitude of individual actions based on personal conviction and belief” has on changing the environment.

This issue is filled with photo essays, day trips, excursions, and conversations with local makers (including Sweet Georgia Yarns, Sylvia McFadden of Softsweater Knits, Shannon Cook of Very Shannon, Andrea Rangel and many more!). Knitting projects, fabric projects, a little bit of leatherwork, and recipes further this place-based celebration of fiber and fabric arts.

Andrea Hungerford has yet to meet a handcraft that doesn’t intrigue her. With this serial, she aims to bring together crafters and makers into a community of those who find joy in creating with their hands, minds, and hearts. Focusing on a specific city or region—a ‘cluster of creativity’—these lookbooks are virtual travel guides for fiber and fabric enthusiasts.
