By Hand: Making Communities

"A travel guide for crafters and makers."

Andrea Hungerford has yet to meet a handcraft that doesn’t intrigue her. With this new serial, she aims to bring together crafters and makers into a community of those who find joy in creating with their hands, minds and hearts. Focusing on a specific city or region-- a ‘cluster of creativity’-- these lookbooks are virtual travel guides for fiber and fabric enthusiasts.

This first issue focuses on a long-standing capital of DIY-- Portland, Oregon-- and is filled with photo essays, day trips, foodie excursions and conversations with local makers. Knitting projects, fabric projects, and recipes further this place-based celebration of fiber and textile arts.

Issue 1: Portland, Oregon.
