Puyu means cloud in Quechua, the native language of the Incas. And that's just what this yarn is—a cloud soft, chunky yarn made of super soft baby alpaca and silvery, mulberry silk. Baby alpaca is forced with highly pressured air into an inner core of silk, creating the nearly impossible—a light-weight chunky-gauge yarn. Reminiscent of single roving, Puyu's absence of twist creates plump, soft fabric. Accessories are next to the skin soft, with great structure and hold. Perfect for shawls and ponchos, even garments.
Color inspirations come from the alpaca itself and the unique range of natural colors found in the herds of the Peruvian Andes. The darker neutrals highlight a beautiful contrast of dark alpaca haze and shimmering silk. The paler tones are more uniform—silk and alpaca blending together.
Amano works to develop luxury yarns that represent the culture and natural resources of the Peruvian Andes. Historically, the Inca people believed the finest alpaca fibers were comparable in value to gold and precious jewelry. Imperial Alpaca, among the finest in the world, is sorted and processed by hand, and finally presented in the most natural state. Local Peruvian artists create yarn labels and graphics to finish off the process—another example of Amano's commitment to their local community.
