Meet Apu, a luxurious 100% alpaca yarn created by Amano. Cashmere soft, three plies are twisted snugly together at a sport weight gauge and left undyed in a natural ivory white. Perfect for shawls and accessories, Apu begs to be worn close to the skin.
Amano works to develop luxury yarns that represent the culture and natural resources of the Peruvian Andes. Historically, the Inca people believed the finest alpaca fibers were comparable in value to gold and precious jewelry. Imperial Alpaca, among the finest in the world, is sorted and processed by hand, and finally presented in the most natural state. Local Peruvian artists create yarn labels and graphics to finish off the process—another example of Amano's commitment to their local community.
Each fiber from Amano receives a name from the native language of the Incas. The word 'Apu' means mountain god—just as Amano describes this fiber, 'a gift from the gods, a taste of the Andes.' We couldn't agree more.
