mYak Tibetan Cloud

mYak Tibetan Cloud

In mYak Tibetan Cloud, two gently twisted plies of sheep wool create a light DK-weight yarn that’s as airy and soft as the clouds that float across the Tibetan sky. The fiber comes from an ancient breed of sheep that make their home on the grasslands of the Tibetan Plateau, where nomadic herders shear them by hand using centuries-old practices. These hardy sheep grow dense fleece that can withstand the high altitude—over 13,000 ft/4,000 m—and harsh weather conditions. Tibetan Cloud is spun from the finest and softest hearth of this wool, for a yarn that’s as delightful to knit with as it is to wear.

Paola, owner of mYak, won the hearts of our team at TNNA one year, telling us stories of the time she lived and worked in Tibet. There, she developed long-lasting relationships with nomadic herders in the high pastures of the Tibetan Plateau. Fiber is sourced directly from these herders, supporting their community and ancient way of life. Organic and with no waste—any fiber that is deemed unfit to be spun into yarn is either given back to the Tibetan herders so they can make pillow fills for prayer mats or is felted into blankets and other household products. Responsibility, traceability, and sustainability!
