Provisional cast on:
Cast on 396 sts as directed in original pattern.

Linen Stitch:
Set-up row (WS): With Color A, work as directed in original pattern, leaving a 6"/15cm tail for twisted fringe.
Continue working as directed in original pattern, leaving a 6"/15cm tail, referring to color sequence below.

Color Sequence:
Row 1 (1 row): Color A. Rows 2–4 (3 rows): Color B. Rows 5–9 (5 rows): Color C. Rows 10–11 (2 rows): Color B. Rows 12–14 (3 rows): Color A. Rows 15–16 (2 rows): Color B. Rows 17–21 (5 rows): Color C. Rows 22–24 (3 rows): Color B. Rows 25–29 (5 rows): Color A. Rows 30–57: Repeat Rows 2–29 one time. Rows 58–80: Repeat Rows 2–24 one time. Rows 81–82 (2 rows): Color A.

I-cord bind-off:
Continuing with Color A, bind off both edges as directed in original pattern.

Blocking:
Pin scarf to desired dimensions, RS up. With damp cloth, steam press gently, pressing I-cord edges flat.

Twisted Fringe:
Notes: We found it helpful to pin the scarf end you’re working on to a blocking or ironing board (or other moisture safe surface). Be sure to pick up tails to twist in the order the rows were knitted; each pair of ends will include one that comes over the edge of the work and one that comes under.

Undo any fringe bundles created while working. Holding two tails together, gently pull any extra slack out of edge stitches, then twist tails to the right (with the twist of the yarn) about 20 turns (until overtwisted)—don’t let go!—secure with binder clip and pin to blocking board. Twist the next two tails exactly as above and hold—don’t let go! Now unclip first set (still holding second) and knot both together with small overhand knot close to ends; don’t tighten yet. Now let go! Allow strands to twist back on each other; tug gently to even up the twist. Repeat across until all tails have been twisted. Note: You may have a couple of strands of fringe left over; weave these ends into the WS of the fabric as invisibly as possible.

When all tails are twisted and knotted, nudge knots as close to the ends as possible while still keeping all four strands in knot. With scarf end pinned evenly to board, finger comb twisted fringe to straighten out. Spray fringe lightly with water to dampen. Use a damp press cloth and firmly steam press fringe. Note: It’s important to set the twist, so you can clip off knots without fringe untwisting. We only tested this process with the specified yarn; some yarns may not set (e.g. plant fibers, superwash wools, etc.). If you are substituting yarns, test this process on your swatch first. Allow to dry thoroughly. Clip off the knot of your longest fringe and check to see if the twist has set (it’s ok if it untwists just a little). If it has set, continue to finger comb all ends again and trim off all knots evenly to match length of the shortest piece.
