Annabella's Cowl Using Manos Silk Blend & Cabrito
Our friend, Annabella Serra, rarely knits from a pattern. She just takes off and makes it up as she goes! We loved this versatile cowl she created so much, we had to write it down. It’s one of our earliest Churchmouse Classics! With its lavish length and unexpected switch from rib to stockinette, it’s such a pleasure to knit. And it’s so versatile—wear it scrunched up around your neck or hooded over the back of your head to guard your ears.
We’ve knit Annabella’s Cowl in an exquisite pairing of Silk Blend and Cabrito—hand-dyed yarns from Manos del Uruguay. DK-weight Silk Blend is a soft, subtly glowing pairing of silk and extra fine merino. Knit together with the lace-weight kid mohair blend, Cabrito, the fabric is delightfully fuzzy and has a dynamic depth of color.
One size: Approx. 17"/43cm around (slightly stretched) x 29"/74cm long.
US 9 (5.5mm) 16"/40cm circular, or size to obtain gauge.
Approx. 17 sts = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch, using both yarns held together.
Notice how the stitch textures you knit influence the way hand-dyed yarns appear in a finished fabric. This project offers two views, with its combination of stockinette stitch and a wide ribbing.
