Our wee friends love to help you celebrate the holidays. And they’ve certainly dressed up for the occasion! These handmade pals are fun, festive, and full of cheer. Popped in a stocking, presented with a package, perched among the boughs of your tree—the more you make, the merrier!
We’ve come up with a few colorways of Jamieson’s tweedy, fingering-weight Shetland Spindrift. A classic, 100% pure Shetland wool yarn, it’s lightweight and lofty. The complex, heathered shades are perfect for a whole neighborhood of Wee Elves!
Three skeins of Shetland Spindrift will give you a wee gathering of 12 tiny elves—or 6 larger elves if you hold Shetland Spindrift double for the DK-weight version. On this page, we also offer Crewel Wool in Sugar Cookie for face color, darning needle, and washer packs.

FINISHED SIZE
Tiny wee elf: Approx. 3½"/9cm tall, or desired height.
Larger wee elf: Approx. 4½"/11.5cm tall, or desired height.
YOU WILL NEED
3 skeins Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift (115 yds/105m each): 1 each of three colors.
3 skeins Appleton Crewel Wool (27 yds/25m each): 1 skein each in colors Caramel, Sugar Cookie, and Cocoa for face.
Package of twelve 3/8" zinc washers (1" diameter) and tapestry needle.
Free adaptation for Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift yarn.

YOU'LL ALSO NEED
Jolly Wee Elf pattern.
Tiny wee elf: US 1½ (2.5mm) double-points (set of five), or size to obtain gauge.
Larger wee elf: US 3 (3.25mm) double-points (set of five), or size to obtain gauge.
One locking marker.
Wool batting or polyester stuffing.
GAUGE
Tiny wee elf: 28–32 sts=4"/10cm in stockinette stitch worked in the round.
Larger wee elf: 24-26 sts=4"/10cm in stockinette stitch worked in the round.
Note: Gauge is not critical, but you want a firm fabric so your stuffing does not show through.
Knitter's Note: If using Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift for the DK-weight version of our elves (aka the "larger wee elf"), simply hold yarn double throughout body, hat and scarf. Appleton Crewel needs to be held quadruple stranded for the face. Our kit here (with three skeins of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift) yields approximately six larger wee elves.
