Color-Blocked Faux Fur Scarf Using Sirdar Alpine
The Color-Blocked Faux Fur Scarf is a fun, updated nod to gorgeous, vintage accessories. Worked widthwise or lengthwise, change colors halfway through for two different looks. Generously sized and with two options for furry color-block orientation, this scarf can be styled in a variety of ways! Plus, it’s warm and cuddly to boot.
We knit these two scarves in Sirdar Alpine—a bulky-weight yarn that’s akin to a fringed ribbon crafted entirely in polyester. Superbly soft and supremely pettable, Alpine is also machine-washable—perfect for these retro-inspired faux fur scarves!
Approx. 6 x 72" /15 x 183cm, after blocking.
4 skeins Sirdar Alpine (36 yds/33m each): 2 each in Color A and Color B.
Or approx. 72 yds/66m of an equivalent chunky-weight fur yarn in each of 2 colors.

K = knit; RS = right side; St(s) = stitch(es); St St = stockinette stitch (K on RS, P on WS); WS = wrong side..
Instructions are given for widthwise version; lengthwise version in parentheses ( ).
Add your second skein of the same color when you have approx. 20"/51cm of yarn left. Leaving an 8"/10cm tail on your new yarn, work a few sts with both old yarn and new yarn held double. Leave 8"/10cm tail on old yarn for weaving in later.
With Color A and using cable cast-on method, cast on 13 (130) sts.
Row 1 (RS): Knit to end. Note: Stitches in fur yarn can be difficult to read; clip a locking marker to RS of fabric so you can keep track of where you are.
Row 2 (WS): Purl to end.
Continue working in St St until piece measures approx. 36 (3)"/91 (7.5)cm long, or desired length, from cast-on edge, ending with WS row. Note: To measure your first color-block section, pull gently along the length of the scarf; this will mimic how the scarf will lengthen when you wear it.
Cut yarn leaving 8"/20cm tail for weaving in later.
Join Color B and continue working in St St as established for another 36 (3)"/91 (7.5)cm, or to match length of Color A, ending with WS row. Note: For lengthwise version, be sure to allow yourself at least 10 yds/m for binding off.
Continuing with Color B, bind off knitwise, matching tension of cast-on edge. Note: If you’re having trouble matching tension, try changing your needle size. Cut yarn; fasten off.
Weave in ends as invisibly as possible on WS.
Soak piece for 20 minutes in tepid water with no-rinse wool soap. Gently squeeze out as much water as possible. Roll in towel and squeeze out more moisture. Fold piece in half and lay flat on moisture-safe blocking surface. Pull or push fabric to desired dimensions. Allow to dry thoroughly.
