Knitting with Company: An Island Retreat 2018

Knitting with Company: An Island Retreat 2018

"Three Relaxing Days - April 26-29"

Four Inspiring Luminaries “Knitting With Company” is Catherine Lowe and Julie Hoover, Churchmouse friends and celebrated knitting designers. For this retreat, they’ll be joined by author and creative director Melanie Falick, and Kay Gardiner, the northern half of the legendary Mason-Dixon Knitting.

These industry legends and the staff at Churchmouse Yarns & Teas invite you to join in as we take a few days to kick back, share stories, enjoy great food and peaceful surroundings, and keep our needles moving. And if you need help with a technique or have a question about one of their patterns, just ask. They’ll be at meals and in the lounges with you.

One Awesome Location. Bainbridge Island’s world-famous IslandWood leads by example with sustainable design that’s breathtakingly beautiful. You’ll eat in a naturally-ventilated Dining Hall, rest in solar heated Sleeping Lodges, and mingle in congenial gathering areas.

Registration opens here at 10:00 a.m. Pacific on Saturday, 1/27/18.

Space limited to 53 attendees. Wait list will appear if sold out.

5 singles (5 rooms) @ $2250 per person

  • Dates. Retreat runs from Thursday late afternoon, April 26th, through breakfast on Sunday, April 29th
  • Registration. Registration will open at 10:00 a.m. Pacific on Saturday 1/27. Full payment secures your spot (or spots -- see below).
  • Waiting List. Because of the strong response, we must close our wait list for this retreat.
  • Choosing Roommates. If you'd like to attend with friends, consider the option of purchasing all the spots (before they sell out) and then ask your friends to pay you back. After your spots are secure, we'll be in touch to appoint roommates. If you don't state a preference, we will assign roommates.
  • Cancellation Policy. The last day to cancel is Thursday, March 29, 2018. If your space can be filled you will receive a full refund, less a $50 processing fee.
  • Retreat Concept. From the "Knitting with Company" website: "This is a knitting retreat in the truest sense. We gather in a place that inspires calm and relaxation in order to truly unwind. We don’t plan any formal classes or instruction. We’re there to knit and to share our knitting with you. Bring one of our designs on your needles and if you need some help, all you have to do is ask. We’ll be happy to answer your questions, demonstrate a technique, explain or clarify a pattern instruction. Or we can just talk about knitting."
  • IslandWood Concept. IslandWood is more than a place -- it's a mission. Here is their statement: "Your presence at IslandWood directly supports our core programs, as well as innovative experiences designed to inspire environmental stewardship." IslandWood does not allow outside food or beverages.
  • Day Visitors. By arrangement with IslandWood, this retreat is limited to registered overnight guests only. If you're unable to attend the retreat, you'll be able to meet Catherine, Julie, Kay and Melanie in the Churchmouse shop on Friday evening, April 27th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. We'll be hosting a sherry and shortbread soiree (no charge) and all are welcome.
  • After Signing Up. We’ll be in contact with you via email and post. At that time we’ll ask about your food preferences -- the IslandWood Chef will happily accommodate any allergies or dietary needs. We'll also arrange roommates and send advance information on topics such as transportation options (see below).
  • Transportation. The closest airport is Sea-Tac. Taxis or light rail will get you to the downtown Seattle Colman ferry dock. The ferry to Bainbridge Island leaves every hour or so and takes 35 minutes. The Churchmouse Shuttle can take you from the Bainbridge ferry terminal to IslandWood. Again, details will be provided to those who secure a spot.
  • Costs Are All-Inclusive. Except for transportation and alcohol. They include: Lodging. Each guest room has its own full bathroom with shower behind privacy doors. All linens and towels are provided. Lower bunks for all, no climbing needed. The furniture is beautifully made by local craftsmen from timber harvested on site. Meals. Thursday evening through Sunday morning (dietary needs met by the chef if arranged in advance). Afternoon tea and treats. Our four featured designers will join in at lunch and dinner. A cash bar will be available at dinner. Activities. In addition to spending time with the four inspiring designers, you’re invited to informal designer presentations, afternoon nature walks with local docents, and a Saturday night campfire gathering. Relaxing. Most of the time will be spent lounging on the couches, knitting and relaxing with the four designers. Thinking of knitting one of their designs? Talk over your project with them and cast on over the weekend.
  • Shopping. During the course of the retreat, attendees will receive 10% off and free shipping on Churchmouse purchases in our store and at our mini-shop at IslandWood.
