Rowan Tweed DK
We do love our tweeds here on Bainbridge Island. Perhaps it's our latitude. We love how tweeds blur the boundaries between homespun and sophisticated, traditional and modern. And Rowan Tweeds, made in one of the few remaining traditional Yorkshire mills, are the benchmark by which we judge all others. The colors are dyed in the fleece and blended in the spinning for complex heathered shading; small clips of bright wool ('neps') are added during the spinning. While the effect is quite rustic, it is a bit more costly to achieve, but we think a good tweed is worth every penny.
Technically called 'Rowan Tweed' — it was the first in the family — we call this one Rowan Tweed DK to distinguish it from its smaller (Fine) and beefier (Aran) siblings. A slightly thick-and-thin singles-spun, it's perfect for our Ribbed Pencil Skirt pattern, colorwork and crisp stitch patterns. With a good wet-blocking, the fabric will soften and bloom for a handsome finish.
